Robert was the older brother of the famous signer of the Declaration of Independence of the same name. In those days, parents would re-use the names of children who died in infancy.
The stone was vandalized several times, first being broken off at the base, and later the name "Robert" was scraped off, probably as a sick joke. Restoration was completed on 22 November 2010 by members of the North Weymouth Cemetery Association, with the added inscription "AGED 12 DAYS" under the year 1727.
Also buried in that location is another brother, Thomas Paine who died in 1731 at the age of 13 months. Thomas' stone was stolen and will soon be replaced with a new one.
