He died in a rest home in Phoenix, AZ. He had been in poor health since suffering severe injuries from the lightning strike. He had gone to the southwest 2 weeks before hoping that the warmer climate would benefit his health.

Services were at the Wolff funeral home in Elgin. The Rev Alexander Milmine of the Elgin Congreational church officiated with the burial in the Evergreen cemetery in Barrington.

He is survived by his widow Enda; a son, Arthur Pahlke Jr. of California; a stepson Robert Wilkey of Elgin, his mother, Mrs. August Pahlke of Barrington, a sister Mrs. Anna Nordmeyer of Barrington, and two brothers, William and Alvin Pahlke, both of Barrington, IL.
