Lucy P. Benson, 85, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Appalachian Christian Village. She was a native of Woodruff, SC, daughter of the late Samuel Leatherwood and Amanda Mae Poole Page.

Lucy was a retired teacher in the Johnson City School System. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Rex Ramsey Benson in 1968; a son-in-law, Paul Rader; four brothers, Hugh, Sam, Furman and Marvin Page; two sisters, Ginny Betsill and Loree Brockman.

Survivors include: three daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Benson and Bill Smith of Greeneville, Beth Benson Rader of Johnson City, Patti Benson Hyder of Fort Mill, SC; six grandchildren, Page Smith Nabywaniec (Kyle), Andy Benson Smith, Tish Hyder Patkus (Jackson), Rex Garrett Hyder, Justin Rader and Amanda Rader; four great grandchildren, Ramsey King, Caroline Nabywaniec, Max Patkus and Miles Patkus; two sisters, Myrtle Betsill of Woodruff, SC and Sara Winefordner of Kure Beach, NC; a special friend and caregiver, Kitty Sahlin; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm Friday December 12, 2014, at the Morris – Baker Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 5:00 pm under the direction of Gerald Malcolm and Gordon Littleford. A private committal service will be conducted at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Smith, Andy Smith, Rex Hyder, Justin Rader, Jackson Patkus and Kyle Nabywaniec.
