Elaine Packard, 75, a lifelong Albany resident, passed away Tuesday.

She was born to Loren and Isabelle Wilson. She graduated from Albany Union High School in 1950.

She married Eugene Packard on Aug. 20, 1952. They had two daughters, Carolyn Grice and Julianne Ammons, both of Rainer. She leaves six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine worked for the Oregon State University Housing Department for 28 years, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed her work, especially befriending the students. She was a "mom" to many of those who were far from home and enjoyed entertaining them at her house. She continued to stay in touch with many of them after graduation and encouraged them in their careers.

Elaine was a member of the Albany First Baptist Church, now known at Willamette Community Church, for 40 years. She enjoyed serving in the choir, Women's Missionary Circle, senior's ministry, church office and White Cross. After her retirement, she was able to dedicate much of her time to help the church in any way possible.

Elaine took great pride in entertaining others in her home. Though her house was small, she found a way to host others whenever possible. She was a gifted baker and loved to share her talents with others. She took pride in gardening and maintaining the beauty of her home. She enjoyed crocheting, arranging flowers and decorating cakes. She could have become a florist, if the opportunity had presented itself.

Elaine was active in the community. She and several other ladies formed a group they called Omega Gamma, which helped support various missionaries. She enjoyed music and attended numerous public concerts and those held at various churches.

Elaine was dedicated to her family. She was part of everything going on in the lives of her daughters and their families. She did her best to attend every holiday or birthday, making sure that the family celebrated together. She loved to have all the family together in one place and especially enjoyed cooking for them.

A funeral service will be Tuesday at Willamette Community Church. Interment will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
