OBITUARY
Mrs. Fred Paarmann was born on the 9th day of July 1865 in Center township Clinton county Iowa. On Oct. 24, 1884 was united in marriage with Fred Paarmann, her bereaved husband. To this union were born ten children of whom two preceded her in death in their infancy. Eight survive who mourn her loss. They are as follows Mrs. William Rathmann of near Welton, Ia., Mrs. Anne Sweet at DeWitt, Mrs. Mary Jansen at home, Joe Paarmann of DeWitt, Harry Paarmann also of DeWitt, Linley, Virtus and Malvern Paarmann at home. The deceased was baptized in her infancy but for some reason had not been confirmed. She decided therefore to be confirmed in 1906 and received religious instruction and was confirmed by Prof H. Kuhlmann. Ever since that time she had been a faithful member of the Elvira Lutheran congregation, anxious to attend divine service and to partake of the Lord's Supper. Being a Christian herself, she always did see to it that her children followed her example and went to church. She was a faithful mother and wife, untiringly working, always taking the lead and carefully planning for the future and taking care of the household to the best of her ability. Her love and motherly affections went out to her children and she was always ready and willing to help and advise them in their daily tasks. Mrs. Paarmann enjoyed the best of health for the last couple of years but all in an instant a paralytic stroke caused her death. On Wednesday afternoon she had been in Lyons attending Mrs. Schoel's funeral. Toward evening she returned and told her husband all about the funeral. While milking a cow, she was stricken with paralysis. The husband noticed something was wrong because of the peculiar way she talked, came to her assistance and helped her into the house but soon needed more help then put her to bed. A doctor and nurse were summoned to give her the best medical care and nursing, be all in vain. Monday evening she passed away.
The loss husband and children sustained is great and only the all good and merciful God can comfort them. Human words though well meant will never and can never after to grant unto their hearts what may need in this sad hour of bereavement. God's word, however, has comfort for them. His way is always right – though far beyond our sight. The deceased leaves to mourn her loss the before mentioned husband and eight children and also 5 grandchildren. Her age was 55 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Who knows how near my end my be. Time speeds away and death comes on. How swiftly. Oh how suddenly may death be here and life be gone! My God for Jesus sake I pray thy peace may bless my dying day.
