John Patrick Peters was born September 21, 1913, in Monona, Iowa, the son of George and Catherine McDonald Peters.
He received his education in the area of his birth. In the early 1930's, John attended the University of Notre Dame where he played football for 2 years, in the position of end, until he hurt his knee and had to return home.

On February 20, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he married Florence Meredith Yerkes. They lived in Cedar Rapids before moving to Marshalltown. John served in the United States Army during World War II in Australia. He worked for John Deere in Cedar Rapids, Iowa;
and later was an insurance agent for Bankers Life and Casualty, in Des Moines, Iowa until retiring in 1979.

John died early Tuesday morning, October 9, at his home at 314 S. 14th Ave. after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Florence; 3 daughters: Mary Jane (Frank) Richards, Placentia, California; Susan (Terry) Hostetter, West Des Moines, Iowa; and Carol Peters, Des Moines, Iowa; a son, Terry Peters, West Des Moines;10 grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Donald George Peters, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a sister, Mary Helen (Dugald Raymond) Thompson, Monona, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gregory J. and James Leo; a sister, Catherine Rosella Hesse, and a daughter, Patricia Ann in infancy.

There was no visitation at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home, Marshalltown, which was in charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 12, at Riverside Cemetery, with Rev. Ron Brammer, Des Moines, officiating.
