Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Oak Hill cemetery for John Oxenford, native of Milam county, who died at his home in Navasota at 1 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Oxenford was the son of the late John C. Oxenford, one of the earliest county officials of Milam county having served as district clerk. He worked for many years here with the Carey Lumber Company and for the past 15 years had been bookeeper and manager of the Baylor Lumber Company of Navasota. Mr. Oxenford had been in ill health for the past year due to a heart ailment. Mr. and Mrs. Dow Eplen of Cameron were in Navasota last Sunday and while there Mr. Eplen, a boyhood friend of the deceased, enjoyed a long conversation with Mr. Oxenford. Earlier in the week Mr. Eplen had received work of his serious illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Lentze Funeral Home in Navasota Friday morning at 10 o'clock, the body being brought in the afternoon to Cameron for interment in Oak Hill cemetery. Leland Green Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements here. Deceased is survived by his widow, one daughter, the former Miss Victoria Oxenford, and two grand children.
