Mrs. Harriet Owens Alexander, 73, of Newnan, died Thursday, December 14, 2000.

Mrs. Alexander was born June 17, 1927 in Newnan, daughter of Carlton C. Owens and Corinne Reynolds Owens. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and Myrtle Arnall Mann Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Newnan High School and Crawford W. Long School of Nursing, class of 1947. She was a member of the operating room staff at Newnan Hospital and retired in 1986 as Operating Room Supervisor.

Her three loves were the Newnan-Coweta Art Association, Coweta Festivals Inc. (sponsor of the Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival), and Central Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Newnan-Coweta Art Association and also served as its president. She was director of Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival 1976 to 1996 and served on the Coweta Festivals Board from 1975 to 2000. She was Honorary Member of the Pilot Club of Newnan and was named Woman of the Year in 1979 by the club.

Surviving are her husband, Robert W. Alexander Jr.; brother, Carleton James Owens and sisters-in-law, Rubye Carter Owens, Elizabeth Alexander Morris and Mary Alexander Bowers; brother-in-law, Lawrence Bowers; nephews, Steven Carter Owens, Gregory James Owens, Bobby Atchison, David Bowers, Jeff Bowers, Greg Bowers; nieces, Betty Atchison, Beth Bowers Newsome, and Doris Atchison Stanford.

The family will receive friends 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

A funeral will be Friday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery.
