Oldest Resident of North Salem Dies - Mrs. Jane Adams Had Lived in Community 93 Years
Mrs. Jane Adams, age ninety-three, North Salem's oldest resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Sowders, Saturday morning. She had been ill ten days of hypostatic pneumonia and until that time had retained all her faculties and was in unusually good health.
She was born near North Salem, November 1, 1841, the daughter of John and Margaret Owen, and has lived her entire life in this community. She united in marriage to John Kersey in 1860 and one son, Jess Kersey, and one daughter, Mrs. Matilda Smith, survive. In 1869, she was married to W. J. Adams, and two sons, Hother of Lafayette, and Ora of Lebanon, also the daughter, Mrs. Carrie Sowders, are living. One daughter, Ella, died in 1904. There are twenty-one grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Craig, at the North Salem Christian church, Sunday afternoon, with interment in the local cemetery.
