Elias was married to Susannah "Annie" France on 25 December, 1876 in Clay county, Indiana.

Elias D. Owens Dies Saturday in Van Buren Tp.
Elias D. Owens, prominent farmer of Van Buren township, died at 4 o'clock Saturday at the home near Carbon at the age of 77 years and 18 days. The deceased had been in poor health for the past two years of hardening of the arteries and had been confined to his bed for the past three weeks.
The deceased was a member of one of the pioneer families of Van Buren township and was born in that township and had resided there all his life. He was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends. He was a lifelong memeber of the Baptist church.
Mr. Owens is survived by a son and four daughters, Charles E. Owens of Corvalis, Oregon; Mrs. Jane Lillibridge, Kansas City; Mrs. Noble Gave, Ella and Bessie Owens of Van Buren. He is also survived by a brother, Samuel Owens, of Van Buren township and a sister, Mrs. Harriett Gardner of Illinois.
Funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon, interment Owens cemetery.
