Funeral for Mrs. J. M. Baggett, 74, resident of Abilene since 1923, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Elliott's Chapel of Memories.
She died unexpectedly at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital where she was admitted Monday night. Cause of the death is being determined by an autopsy.
Dr. Elwin Skiles, pastor of First Baptist Church of which she was a member, will officiate at services. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
A native of McGregor, Tex., she was born July 4, 1886. The former Mary Pearl Owen, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Owen of Tennessee.
A graduate of New Hope Public Schools, she grew up in Archer County. She and the late J. M. Baggett were married in Archer County Oct. 22, 1905, and lived there until moving to Graham in 1914.
The couple moved from Graham to Abilene July 1, 1923. He died April 15, 1959. Mr. Baggett was a former deputy sheriff and constable in Archer County and had been a maintenance man at Hardin-Simmons University, a groceryman and cement contractor.
A member of the Lois Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Mystic Weavers Sewing Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Baggett of 925 Mulberry St.; three sons, S. N. of 1150 Westridge Dr., L. Otis of Corpus Christi and Owen J. of Denver, Colo.; a brother, E. H. Owen of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Zella Hasson of Archer City and Mrs. Eva Garrett of Wichita Falls, and a granddaughter, Diana Baggett of Denver.
