MRS. BECKMANN

WEST POINT - Mrs. Billie Owen Beckmann, 87, of West Point, formerly of Five Points, died Sunday, April 15, 2007 in Raleigh, N.C.

Graveside services are planned for Thursday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Ferris Hardin officiating.

Mrs. Beckman is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert L. (Barbara) Beckmann Jr. of Raleigh and Steve C. (Nancy) Beckmann of Suwanee, Ga.; five grandchildren, Owen (Morgan) Beckmann, Maury Beckmann, Anderson Beckmann, Meredith Beckmann and Parker (Mollie) Beckmann; one brother, Leonard Carl (Yvonne) Owen Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; and one niece, Kathy Owen Lethbridge of Dallas, Texas.

Born March 30, 1920 in Five Points, Mrs. Beckmann was the daughter of the late Willie Robinson Owen and the late Leonard Carl Owen. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Beckmann Sr., and her sister, Martha Owen Curley. Mrs. Beckmann was a graduate of Auburn University, earning a bachelor's degree in home economics and a master's degree in music. While at Auburn, she joined Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Mrs. Beckmann retired from teaching in Troup County after 40 years of service. Her last assignment was at Gray Hill Elementary School. Mrs. Beckmann was an active member of First United Methodist Church in West Point, where she was a past organist for several years and was a piano accompanist for the men's Sunday school class.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 18 from 7 until 9 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West Point, 306 E. Seventh St.,West Point, 31833. McCarthy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
