1st Spouse: Amzie Miller (abandoned wife before the birth of their daughter, Matilda) His whereabouts are unknown.
Sarah "Sally" Outcalt was born 12 May 1815 in Portage County, Ohio. She was the 5th child of Schobey Outcalt and Clarissa Sabins. Sarah presumably lived in Portage County until 1846 when, according to Ms. Geanious, she and her daughter Matilda moved to Ripley, Illinois. While the year is probably correct, I believe that she likely lived in northern Schuyler County for a time, prior to moving to Ripley in Brown County. Though she does not appear in the 1850 census, her parents and siblings resided in Brooklyn Township, pointing toward the likelihood that as a single mother, she would have lived close to her family for needed assistance and support. Sarah remarried on 27 Feb 1853 to John W Cooper in Schuyler County. John was a widower, though I do not know the name of his first wife or when she died. He had at least one son from the previous marriage, William, who is found living next to John in the 1880 census. John and Sarah resided in Woodstock Township of Schuyler County in 1860. Woodstock is the southernmost township in the county and contains part of the town of Ripley, though the sheet states that they use the Rushville Post Office.
