Thora E. Wurst, 86, 344 W. 23rd St., died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Saint Vincent Health Center. She was born May 8, 1916, in McKean, daughter of the late Frank and Alma Bolte Otteni.
She worked for Erie Ceramic Arts Co., retiring in 1980 after 18 years. She attended McKean Joint High School. She was a charter member of Western Saddle Club. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Millcreek Senior Goodtimers and various card clubs, including one at the Mercy Center on Aging. She enjoyed quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Wurst Sr., in 1983; a son, Robert Wurst; three sisters, Hazel Platz, Ruth Wurst and Inez Jackson; five brothers, Frank "Pete" Otteni, Roy "Whitey" Otteni and Robert, James and Norman Otteni; and a grandson, Scott Wurst.
Survivors include two sons, Donald R. Wurst and his wife, Shirley, of Erie and Bill J. Wurst Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Mill Village; a sister, Susie Roesch and her husband, Bill, of McKean; three granddaughters; four grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser and the Rev. Reinhold K. Weber of St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., Erie, PA 16502.
