According to a great great grandson of Benedict, Paul Oatney Shugert, Benedict's tombstone stood at the corner of Lawrence Street and Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Elmwood Cemetery. The stone was inscribed in German and no one in the family could read it. Paul remembered the stone being knocked down by cars and destroyed. Unfortunately, all cemetery records for Elmwood were kept in a tool shed which was later destroyed by fire.
