Albert P. Otteni, 83, of 2323 Edinboro Road, and formerly of 2926 Court Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. He was born in Erie Jan. 24, 1915, son of the late Fred and Margaret (Baroth) Otteni.

He worked for Lovell Manufacturing Co. for 35 years as a foreman of the plating department, having started when he was 18, retiring in 1970. He was part of a founding family of Our Lady Peace Church. He was a former president of the the church's Ushers Society. He was a member of the Zukor club and the Leisure Club of the church. He was a Salvation Army Senior Citizen, a former boys baseball coach, and a former Cub Scout leader at Montclaire School. At Our Lady of Peace, he remodeled and built various buildings in the parish.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Air Force 1st Lt. Albert F. Otteni, who died in 1967; two sisters, Caroline Pennock, and Marian Guckes; and four brothers, Arthur, Ted, Philip and Benjamin.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Hickel) Otteni, a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Doris) Causgrove of Erie; a son, Gerald Otteni, and his wife, Jerri, of Concord, N.C.; six grandchildren; Mrs. Benjamin (Patricia) Moroz of Philadelphia; Mary Catherine Causgrove of Erie; Thomas Causgrove and his wife, Lisa, of Erie; Jack Frederick Otteni, and his wife, Stephani, of South Carolina; Peter Otteni, of North Carolina; and George Otteni of Colorado; one sister, Mildred Funk, of Erie; and a brother, Leo Otteni of New Mexico. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, West 25th and Sassafras Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service at the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 300 State St., suite 301, Erie, PA 16507.
