Nona Agema, 90, formerly of Altoona and Augusta, passed away Thursday Feb. 19, 2004, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Rice Lake.
Nona, daughter of Jacob and Amelia (Bolchen) Ostrander, was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Boscobel, and there she married George Agema on June 10, 1934. The couple lived the first 30 years of their married life in Augusta, Menomonie and Hudson. After her husband attended seminary college, the couple moved to Altoona, at which time he served as pastor of the United Methodist Church in both Altoona and Lake Hallie. When he retired in 1975, they moved back to Augusta. She had been a resident of the nursing home for the past year. For nearly 70 years she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, serving in various local and state offices. She served eight years as the camp manager at the Odd Fellow and Rebekah’s Youth Camp in Waupaca.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Mr. Larry (Judith) Agema of Eau Claire; two daughters, Marie (Lloyd) Olson of Webster, Karen (Bruce) Furlong of Andover, Minn.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on Feb. 22, 1998; also by her parents; and eight siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery, both in Augusta. Friends may call two hours prior to services at the church.
