Shirley Joan Bailor, 81, of Bethany, Oklahoma, passed away following a valiant battle with cancer on Thursday, November 14, 2013. She was born in Syracuse, New York on March 19, 1932, the only daughter of Charles and Mabel Ostrander. She married Donald R. Bailor in 1954. Shirley and Don moved to Bethany in 1963, and together, they lived and raised five children until Don's death in 1987. Shirley was a talented artist, loved to read and watch "her shows" on television. She had strong opinions about things, but with that came her huge, big heart. If one of her children needed help with anything, she was there for them. Shirley loved cats and at one time had seven! Anytime she saw or heard about a stray, she had to take them in to "give them a better life." Shirley was also an expert nurse, with an intuitive sense about her patients. Her career encompassed the life span; she worked in labor, delivery and postpartum and helped new lives enter the world and, as a cardiac nurse, sometimes caring for those who were transitioning from the world. Most of all, Shirley loved her 11 grandbabies. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Mabel Ostrander; her older brother, Chuck Ostrander; and her husband, Don Bailor. She is survived by her younger brother, Phillip "Butch" Ostrander, of Syracuse, NY; her sons: Donald M. Bailor and his wife Carolyn, of Australia; David Bailor and his wife Robin, and Chris Bailor and his wife Abby, of Bethany; two daughters: Judy Stuart, of Norman; and Tracy Wall and her husband Karl, of Bethany. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Amy Stuart and Jenna and Cody Hunter; Nathan and Kate Veach; Kris, Ashley, Chelsea and Daniel Wall; Christian and Sean Bailor; and Emma and Ella Bailor. Services to celebrate Shirley's life were held at Bill Merritt Chapel Monday, November 18, 2013, 2:00 p.m.
