Mary is the daughter of Nathan and Ann (Worthen) Boynton. Nathan was born in Weare, N.H. and Ann was born in Seabrook, N.H. Mary married her cousin, David Boynton.

An Ashland Local.
Mary O. Boynton of Lakeport celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday at her daughter's, Mrs. Alfred Cook Saturday, July 17. She is the eldest of five children, all of whom are living, except one who died in childhood. The two sisters were present to enjoy the day with her; Mrs. H.H. Gilman of Ashland and Mrs. George Wyman of Waltham, Mass., aged respectively, eighty and seventy-two years. The brother, James W. Boynton of Hyde Park, seventy-seven years of age was unable to attend. It is very unusual to find a family of children whose circle is not broken in seventy-two years. We seldom see a person that has passed four score years possessed with as clear a mind and showing as much physical activity as Mrs Boynton. It was a pleasure to hear these elderly ladies as they chatted of old times, told stories and recited poems, old, yet new to the present generation. When their hair has grown white and the character became pure and noble in the service of Christ, it can be said by one of old, "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness." >The Ashland Item, July 31, 1897, p4.

Mrs. Mary O. Boynton, widow of Deacon David Boynton of Thornton, died of bronchitis Saturday morning, June 22nd, at 7:30 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. George E. Sanborn, on Mechanic Street, Lakeport after an illness of about two weeks. Mrs Boynton was born in Weare, N.H., July 17, 1812, and was 88 years, 11 months and 5 days old. She leaves five children, Mrs. Ephraim Elliott and Mrs. Alfred Cook of Plymouth, and Mrs. George E. Sanborn and D.M. Boynton of Lakeport. She has made her home with her son since the death of her husband twenty-six years ago, but at the time of her death was visiting her daughter, Mrs Sanborn. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Hannah H. Gilman of Ashland, aged 84 years, and one brother, Mr. James W. Boynton of Hyde Park, Mass., aged 82 years, both of whom were able to be with her during the last days of her life. Mrs. Boynton was converted about seventy years ago and has lived a faithful and consistent Christian life since that time.

In her death her children lose a loving and devoted mother, one who was always ready to sacrifice her own comfort for their good. Her friends and acquaintances lose a true and loving friend. She was conscious until nearly the last moment of life, giving words of counsel to her children, saying ‘Jesus is precious' and counseled all to live for Christ.

The funeral took place at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. G.E. Sanborn, 341 Mechanic Street Tuesday at 10 o'clock a.m., Rev. W.H. Getchell officiating. The text, Mark vii:37, "He hath done all things well," being selected by the deceased several years ago and quoted by her but a few moments before her death. Music was furnished by a quartet consisting of Miss Gertrude B. Goss, Mrs. R.N. Dana, Rev. W. Getchell and Mr. George Kelley. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The bearers were J.P. Lane, D.O. Merrill, G.L. Wallace and H.G. Bagley. The remains were taken to Plymouth on the moon train for burial in the Riverside Cemetery, where brief services were held by Reverend F G Clark. >The Plymouth Record, July 6, 1901, p4.
