YORK William Dean Orr, 76, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. William was born in York, on October 16, 1937, the son of the late Rev. David M. and Eulamae (Nimmons) Orr and the widower of the late Shirley A. (Johnson) Orr, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. William was affectionately known as Dean. Dean attended William Penn Senior High School and was a member of the Marching Band. He served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from the United States Army on December 31, 1966. Dean was a long-time member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, and he was also a member of the Prince Hall Affiliated Free and Accepted Masons. Dean leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Charles A. Orr of Detroit, Mich.; three sisters, Betty J. (JC) Roberson and MK "Kitty" Orr, both of York, and Joyce A. (Earl) Johnson of Summerville, S.C.; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leona Cuthrell; six brothers, Dr. Henry C. Orr, David M. Orr, Jr., Jesse O. Orr, John W. Orr, Roger E. Orr, and Paul E. Orr; and a sister, Daisy M. Orr. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2014, from 9 to 11 a.m. and a Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 1165 E. Prospect St., York 17403 with his pastor, the Rev. Ryan Johnson, officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York, and full military rites will be given by The York County Honor Guard.
