Irene S. Ormsby, 96, of Newcastle, Washington, formally of Stanwood and Solon, died Friday, November 14, 2003, at Cascade Vista Nursing Home in Redmond, Washington.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Memorial contributions may be made to Altersgate United Methodist Church in her memory.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.
Irene Sophia Klahn was born October 25, 1907, in Dixon, the daughter of Edward and Dorothea (Paustian) Klahn. She graduated from Durant High School in 1925 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She married Robert Henry Ormsby on June 16, 1929, in Pulaski, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1991. She was employed with the Stanwood Post Office for 25 years, until her retirement. She later moved to Newcastle, Washington, to be near her family.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Garnet Ormsby of Newcastle, WA; two grandsons, Michael and Todd Ormsby; one sister, Irma Greenwald of Solon; and one brother, Ralph Klahn of Durant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, James Ormsby, one sister, Dorothy Ellsworth and two brothers, Orville and Elmer Klahn.
