Gail Elizabeth Ormsby Gane, 51, of Lumberton, died on August 18, 2012, in Lumberton. Gail was born April 9, 1961, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Gail was the daughter of Ed and Clairene Tinkham Ormsby, and grew up in Charlotte, NC, graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in 1979, and UNC Wilmington in 1983, with a degree in Psychology. As a student at UNC Wilmington, Gail was the founding member of the Eta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi.

After earning a degree in respiratory therapy from Robeson Community College, Gail became a respected and popular instructor at RCC, serving as director of the Respiratory Care Program for 10 years. She was a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care, the National Board of Respiratory Care, and the North Carolina Association of Respiratory Educators.

During her life, Gail was totally devoted to her family. Her brothers, Eddie and Dan Ormsby describe her as a caring, loving sister, always there for her family. Her sons, David and Daniel recall a loving and devoted mother who brought joy and creativity into each and every day, delighting them by playing the guitar and singing to them, creating the most amazing Halloween costumes ever, and planning the most original themed birthday parties imaginable. They remember her beautiful, smiling face, her love and compassion, and her unfailing dependability.

Gail will also be remembered for her love of the outdoors, especially the beach, and her love for animals, big and small. As an advocate for the humane treatment of all animals, Gail was an active member and past president of the Robeson County Humane Society, adopting and caring for many dogs herself over the years. She was also a member of the Borderbelt Horseman's Association.

Always active in her church, Gail was the first director of Christian education at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lumberton. She later became very involved in her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Lumberton, where she was also a member of the handbell choir.

Because of her enthusiasm for life, her intelligence and love of learning, and her kind and compassionate nature, Gail will be greatly missed by family, friends, students, and colleagues.

Gail was preceded in death by her mother, Clairene Tinkham Ormsby; and by a nephew, Stephen Charles Gane, Jr (Find A Grave Memorial# 69167127).

Survivors include her devoted husband, Dwight David Gane; sons, Dwight David Gane, Jr. and wife Ashley, and Daniel Mark Gane, all of Lumberton; father, Ed Ormsby and wife Margaret of Huntersville; brothers, Eddie Ormsby and wife Tavia of Newton and Dan Ormsby and wife Sally of Stanley; nieces, Dawn Ormsby Edwards, Chrystal Ormsby Schanewolf, Miranda Ormsby McGinnis, Annie Gane Floor, Ali Cook, and Katie Gane; and nephews, Michael Ormsby, Jeffrey Ormsby, Matthew Ormsby, Brian Gane, Josh Gane, and Holland Cook.

The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church, 606 N. Walnut St., Lumberton. Memorials may be made to Borderbelt Horseman's Association, 14343 N.C. 41 North, Lumberton, N.C., 28358.

Mrs. Gane you will truly be missed. Thank you so much for all that you have instilled in me. I would not be the therapist I am today if it hadn't been for your dedication and devotion as a mentor.
