Doretta M. Berg, age 96 of Edina, passed away on August 13, 2003. She is preceded in death by her son, Donald Edward Berg; sisters, Irene and Emily Olson; brothers, Jack and Oliver Olson. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 75 years, George E. Berg; daughter, Barbra Berg; sisters, Helen Thoreen and Viola Peper; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Olson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. Memorial service 11 AM Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Christ Presbyterian Church, 70th Ave & Hwy 100, Edina (952-920-8515) with interment to follow at Clare Cemetery, Flandreau, South Dakota. Memorials preferred. Cremation Society of MN Edina 952-924-4100

Dode was born Nov. 11, 1906, on a farm outside Egan, South Dakota to John B. Olson and Malise(Amundson) Olson, The 5th of eight children. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Egan High School and attended one year of South Dakota State University, Where she met her future husband George Berg.

She worked as secretary to the Dean of Pharmacy during their courtship. When George moved to Chicago for further studies, she followed, They were Married and she typed his dissertation while continuing to work as a stenographer.

During their 75 years of marriage, they raised two children, and lived in Illinois,Ohio and Tennessee before moving to Edina in 1956, following the death of their son, Don, who was serving in the air force.

Dode was active in churches in each of their home towns, worked on the Integration Committee of Girl Scouts in Memphis and ,in the Twin Cities, volunteered with loaves and fishes, Meals on Wheels and the Society for the Blind, in addition to her church committees.

In 1978, Dode and George moved to 7500 York as charter members. They enjoyed traveling and collecting souvenirs around the world. She was a skilled pianist, enjoyed opera and theater, was an avid bowler and loved to dance.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Edward Berg; sisters,Irene and Emily Olson; brothers,Jack and Oliver Olson. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, George E. Berg;daughter,Bara Berg; sisters, Helen Thoreen and Viola Peper; Brother,Robert(Dorothy) Olson;many nieces,nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends
