Ethel J. Baker, 96, Bloomington, passed away at 5:56 a.m. Easter Sunday (April 20, 2014) at Heartland Health Care, Normal.
She was born at home on April 10, 1918 in Bloomington, the daughter of Edward and Christine Erickson Olson. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and two brothers, Ivan Olson and Martin Frederick Olson. She married Reid Baker on Aug. 3, 1941 at the West Olive Methodist Church, Bloomington. He survives.
Surviving are two children, Diane E. (Richard) Mishler and Philip T. Baker; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Michael) Mishler, Stacy (Randy) Ash and Brian (Molly) Baker and eight great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1940, with a bachelor of science in education. She taught English, physical education and directed plays at Somonauk High School. For 15 years, she was a receptionist in the office of Dr. John Wright and was active in the McLean County Medical Assistants organization. She was also a substitute teacher at Bloomington Junior High School.
