Mauritz R. Olson, 83, of Grand Island died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. (other service arrangements omitted here)
Mr. Olson was born on March 7, 1916, at Benson to Alfred and Emma (Danielson) Olson. He graduated from high school in the Omaha Benson area in 1934. He married Alice M. Luebbe on Sept. 2, 1939, in Hollywood, Calif. They lived in Hollywood where Mr. Olson was a plasterer. They moved to Grand Island in 1943. He was a lath-and-plaster contractor in Grand Island for more than 35 years. After retiring in 1977, the couple moved to Johnson Lake. Upon returning to Grand Island in 1990, they spent their winters in Bullhead City and Lake Havasu, Ariz.
Mr. Olson was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elk Club and Platt-Duetsche Society. He was a former member of the Liederkranz, Saddle Club and Izaac Walton League. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William of Sandy, Utah; a daughter, Kay (Mrs. Gordon) Stofer of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Keith; two brothers, Knut Olson and an infant brother; and a sister, Ingrid Koontz.
