Olive Olsen Blackham, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away February 22, 2013, of natural causes in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Moroni, Utah on October 27, 1920 to John Manley and Helena Christensen Olsen.
She married her sweetheart, LaMont, in the Manti Temple on June 14, 1939. They enjoyed almost 68 years together before LaMont passed away in April 2007. She was a devoted wife and mother to nine children.
Olive graduated from Moroni High School and seminary in 1938. She attended Snow College for a semester and then met her sweetheart and they married the following June. They enjoyed many years together and spent time traveling to many states and countries. They were able to celebrate both their 50th and 65th wedding anniversaries with their family. The family celebrated her 91st birthday with a big surprise party at the Moroni Stake Center. It was one of the many highlights of her life with 104 of her posterity attending.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many ward positions. She is survived by her children and sons and daughters-in-law, daughter-in-law, 38 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren and five on the way, and sister. She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Ruth; son, LaMont; son-in-law, Kirk Brotherson; parents, two sisters, Christie Johansen and Helen Crosland.
Olive has been a great example to her family and those around her. She has spent her life serving her family. She has enjoyed collecting Madam Alexander dolls, hand embroidery, bowling, gardening, Jazz basketball games and watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports activities throughout the years. She loved watching and recording old movies. She would share those movies with her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and was known by her family as the "sugar queen".
The family would like to thank Dr James Tatton, Dr. Gerald Taylor, the staff and care-givers at the Intermountain Home Care and Central Valley Hospice for their loving and gentle care.
She was so grateful for her family. They were the "crowning jewels" of her life. She would tell us all "she had the best family" but momů.you were the best and taught us so well by your wonderful example. We love you and miss you already. We know you are having a joyous reunion with your loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the Moroni LDS Stake Center. Viewing will be Wednesday, February 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Moroni LDS Stake Center and also prior to the services from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Moroni City Cemetery.
