Margaret Oliver "Maggie" Hill, R.N., 83, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born July 13, 1913, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary Minetta Frankenberry Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Monroe Hill Jr.

She was a 1931 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She graduated from Kings Daughters Hospital Training School as a registered nurse.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She also was a member of Kings Daughters Hospital Alumni; the Quota Club; American Nurses Association; Shenandoah Valley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Governor's Task Force Commission on Nursing Education; the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nursing from Dec. 22, 1972 to June 30, 1977 and July 10, 1978 to June 30, 1982.

She was awarded Outstanding State Vocational Educators Award in 1975 in Health Occupation by the National Vocational Advisory Committee and served as secretary for the State Board of Examiners in West Virginia. She was the coordinator and instructor for the Berkeley County Vocational School for licensed practical nurses at James Rumsey from its inception until 1980.

Governor Arch Moore appointed her to the West Virginia Planning Commission for Nursing and later, Governor Jay Rockefeller appointed her to the Governor's Commission on Nursing.

She received the Red Cross Certificate for outstanding contributions as Instructor-Trainer and Instructor-Supervisor for 30 years in July 1977 and was awarded certification for Continuing Education by "The West Virginia State Nurses Association for Registered Nurses." She served on the Board of Directors for Potomac Comprehensive Diagnostic and Guidance Center and taught 25 years Red Cross Home Nursing and Instructor Courses.

She is survived by one daughter, Gay Hill Dawson of Atlanta; one son, Wayne C. Hill of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Kopp of Martinsburg and Anne Calandriello of Garfield, N.J., and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mabel Frye, Katherine Miller, Lucy Long, Mary Gochenour, Eva McCullough, and Pearl Flowers and one brother, Russell Oliver .

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
