Thomas Joseph is the son of Thomas Winston Oliver and Elizabeth Brawner Oliver. His birthdate of June 1829 on his gravestone is cited in the 1900 census for Tallapoosa County, Alabama; birth possibly in Elbert County, GA. He married Susan Elizabeth Hickey on January 25,1857, Troup County, GA. She being the daughter Of William Henry and Mary Lucretia White Hickey, born on March 30, 1839, Troup County, GA. Susan Elizabeth's birthdate on her gravestone is also in the 1900 census. In 1840, Winston Oliver was in Troup County with a wife, two sons and two daughters.
In 1850, his brother, Joseph H., 13, was in the home of Samuel M. Oliver in Tallapoosa Co., AL. By 1860, Thomas Joseph (26 - birthyear 1834) had migrated to Tallapoosa County and was living with Thomas W. Oliver in New Site. In the home were Caleb, 36, Thomas Joseph and wife, Susan (23 - birthyear 1837), and son, William, 1. Three children will be born to Thomas Joseph and Susan Elizabeth before he enlists in the Confederate States Army: William, Phillip and Mary Jane. Thomas Joseph enlisted on August 5, 1864, into Capt. R. G. Young's Company of Cavalry. Alabama State Reserves, at Youngville, Alabama. The Company served until December 31, 1864, in Cahaba, Dallas County, Alabama. Two other daughters are born in Tallapoosa County: Nancy Olivia Lee, Nov. 28, 1875 and Martha Naomia, Feb.27, 1881. Other children may have been born between Mary Jane and Nancy Olivia but did not survive.
On Dec. 11, 1882, Tallapoosa Co., Mary Jane Victoria Lucretia Oliver will marry Isaac Ucal Eason, son of Ashley and Elizabeth Overton Terrell Eason.
