Funeral services for James E. Oliver, 86, of Elderville, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Centre Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend John Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Elderville Cemetery, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.

Mr. Oliver passed away Monday morning, July 7, 2008, at his residence, after a lengthy illness.

James was born January 18, 1922, in Kilgore, Texas, to Tillman and Clara Adams Oliver. He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Texas Eastman as an operator after 33 years of service. He raised cattle and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Mae Higginbotham Oliver; and daughter Linda Edney.

He is survived by three sisters, Evelyn Kennard, Tilly Smallwood and Betty Bastian; one son, Jimmy and his wife, Carol; two grandsons, Billy Ray and Mike Edney; granddaughters, Tina Long and Becky Oliver; great-grandsons, Coby and Trent Edney and Allan Long Jr.; and great-granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Long.
