Dorothy Oliphant Crussel, 92, of Columbus died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor at Hope.
Mrs. Crussel was a graduate of Burney High School and was president of her class. She was an active member of Newbern United Methodist Church, where she had served as primary Sunday school superintendent, parsonage trustee, and was one of the first two women to serve as church trustee. She also was a charter member of WSCS, Wesleyan Service Guild, and Spoon and Thimble Club.
She was a dedicated 4-H leader and a Clifty Township S&E Farm Bureau leader. She also was a seamstress and taught sewing.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope with the Rev. David Cummings officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Newbern United Methodist Church.
Born in Decatur County Jan. 24, 1914, Mrs. Crussel was the daughter of William "Bill" and Ethel Porterfield Oliphant. She married Howard Crussel May 27, 1932.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Howard Crussel Jr. of Lafayette and Marvin Crussel of Columbus; a daughter, Donna Jean Robinson of Evansville; a sister, Mildred Tarter of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Smith and Mary Shimp, and a brother, Charles Oliphant.
