Frederick W. "Bill" Olbricht of Crawford died April 24 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford. He was 95.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Harrison Bible Church with Pastors Matt Parker and Don Mathis officiating. Interment will be at the Glendale Cemetery with military honors.
Bill was born at Marsland Oct. 12, 1914 to Frank and Minna (Rohde) Olbricht. He grew up seven miles south of Glen. He received his education at District #33, Marsland, Crawford, and the Stiller District. Bill entered the Army in 1941 and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received during World War II, while serving as a machine gunner for the 7th Cavalry in the Solomon Islands.
He married Frances Eleanor Kreman on June 7, 1947. In 1963, they moved to Mitchell. In 1976, Bill retired from Great Western Sugar Company and they moved back to Glen.
Bill was very active in the Harrison Bible Church and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, D.A.V., Sioux County Historical Society and an active volunteer for Ponderosa Villa. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and playing cards.
Bill had a stroke in 2006, and moved to Ponderosa Villa.
His survivors include: his wife, Frances Olbricht of Crawford; sons, Lennis Olbricht of Aurora, Colo., Glen Olbricht of Newton, Kan., Kim Olbricht of Bayard; daughter, Cheryl Collins of Gillette, Wyo.; brother, Frank Olbricht of Crawford; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta. and a brother. Ernest.
A memorial has been established for the Harrison Bible Church. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
