Helen was born in Hartford, CT on May 28, 1920, daughter of the late Michael and Nora (Knapp) Olander; she was raised in Wethersfield along with her 12 siblings.
Helen was the consummate loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a great source of strength and happiness to her family. Neighbors and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her considered Helen to be a very caring, thoughtful and genuine person. Helen loved the simple joys of life and often preferred to share a smile or a laugh in dealing with life's many trials and tribulations.
Helen is survived by her three children, Ann, Rita, Tom and his wife Kathy, and her two grandsons, Christopher and Michael whom she cherished immensely, as well as her "four-legged baby" Sarah. "Mama - Ja cie Kocham".
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, whom she can now join in Heaven and give him the "long-awaited kiss" she missed while he was gone these past 11 months.
She also leaves two brothers, Henry Olander of Manchester and Tommy Olander and his wife Jody of Wethersfield; and a sister-in-law, Becky Olander in Virginia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, March 16, 10 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford. Burial services will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. The family has requested that donations be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford, CT 06106. Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, Hartford has care of the arrangements.
