She graduated from Attica High School in 1929 and later from Olivet Nazarene University. She taught primary grades at the Baptist School in Danville and schools in Danville and Hoopeston. She was also a nurse's aid.
In 1988 she returned to Attica where she enjoyed living until June of 2005. Her final four years she lived at Bickford House in Bloomington.
She was an enthusiastic member of the Attica Christian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing the organ, reading, writing poetry and many other activities. While living in Attica she attened the Literary Club and the Monday Club.
She is the mother of two children: Richard Eugene Hayes & Janice Elaine Hayes Sleeter.
