Franklin Otto Ogdon passed away on October 4, 2016, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Frank was born August 19, 1954, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Harold and Frances (Mann) Ogdon.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years before marrying his high school sweetheart, Diane Rosenthal on July 8, 1973.
Frank obtained his bachelor’s degrees in education and special education from Eastern Illinois University, followed by his master’s degree in divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. As a United Methodist Minister, he and Diane served in ministry at Lerna, Johnstown, Dennison, Armstrong, Fairmont, Cisco, Decatur St. Paul, and Newton Grace United Methodist churches in Illinois. Upon retiring, he attended Kedron United Methodist Church and continued to serve in ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Illinois.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Riley.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Carol (George) Bohn, and Mary Grushka; four children, Jennifer Riley, Michael (Sarah) Ogdon, Tiffany (Josh) Smith, and Jared (Tricia) Ogdon; twelve grandchildren, Trey and Colby Chaney, Shelby Malone, Allison Riley, Zachary and Natalie Ogdon, Scott, Hunter, Harry, and Adeline Smith, and Mackenzie and Nathaniel Odgon; nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Buddy.
Frank lived, laughed and loved. His love for the Lord was evident in his number one passion, preaching and teaching. He loved spending time with family and friends, good movies, not-so-good jokes, technology, gadgets, Super Bowl parties, and fireworks. He authored the Dialysisian newsletter and served on the Illinois Great Rivers Conference Board for Disability Concerns. He was also an avid Cubs fan.
Services coordinated by Crain Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The visitation will be Friday, October 7, from 5-8 PM at Crain Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be Saturday, October 8, at 10 AM at Grace United Methodist Church in Newton.
Memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation.
