Eloise was born on October 8, 1926, and exchanged her temporary body for an eternal one on October 25, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born in Amity, Arkansas during the Great Depression and periodically moved from one saw mill town to another in Arkansas and Louisiana. Eloise married Burt Brumley, the love of her life, during World War II. They were married for 67 years. In addition to being a child of God, she was a loving mother and grandmother, encourager and friend to many. As the constant encourager in any difficult situation, she would always respond with "It will get better", believing it always would.
Eloise was the daughter of Bennett and Opal Oden. Eloise had two brothers and two sisters who have preceded her in death. Music filled her life at an early age as she traveled with her family to Stamps Baxter music conventions. As an adult, when she wasn't singing in the church choir she traveled and entertained with close friends from church called the "Grinder Switch Bells", providing down home gospel music and comedy all over East Texas.
Eloise and Burt volunteered at the East Texas Food Bank supported by Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Both were active in a prayer group of close Christian friends from Oakland Heights. In 2002, Eloise and Burt moved to Tyler where they became members of Green Acres Baptist Church. It was there she became a Care Giver to Burt who struggled with Alzheimer's until his death in 2010.
Eloise was a resident of Briarcliff Health Center for the last three years of her life where she modeled the love of Christ to everyone she met. Eloise was a constant source of encouragement to the staff of Briarcliff and prided herself in being the best bingo winner of the center.
Eloise was survived by four children, Gloria and Johnny Bowman of Longview, Michael and Georgia Brumley of The Woodlands, Ken and Judy Brumley of Tyler and Judy and Marvin Walton of Diana, nine grandchildren, Jeff Bowman and his wife, Elicia, Chris Bowman and his wife, Tina, Olivia Brumley Metzger and her husband, Ryan, Lauren Brumley, Melissa Craddock and her husband, Mitchell, Mica Allen and her husband, Jeff, Travis Walton and his wife, Lauren, Rebecca May and her husband, Travis and Emily Ehmke and her husband, Ben, her great-grandchildren are Mary Beth and Rebecca Bowman, Justin and Joshua Bowman, Grace and Evan Metzger, Mical-Anne, Mia, and Monroe Craddock, Ella, Brooklyn, and Jackson Walton, and Magnolia May.
Family and friends will be received at Radar Funeral Home in Longview, Texas, on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A small graveside service of family and a few close friends will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Cemetery in Longview. Rev. Lee Poe from Green Acres Baptist Church will conduct the service.
