Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brown, age 87, Rome, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Brown was born in Floyd County, Georgia on May 26, 1924, daughter of the late Ernest Oakes and the late Ollie Higgins Oakes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Brown, in 1974, by a sister, Mrs. Retha Harkins, and by a brother, E. D. Oakes. Mrs. Brown was a member of the East Rome Baptist Church and worked for a number of years for Fox Manufacturing.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ophelia Barnes, Rome; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Micca Gilespie and the Rev. Mike Southerland officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:30am and include: Jerry Barnes, W. D. Barnes, Eddie Wilson, Stephen Harkins, Clyde Young, and Jamie Hutcheson.
