Francis X. "Frank" O'Loughlin, 80, of Norwell, died peacefully at South Shore Hospital Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. The youngest child of the late John and Alice (Fitzgerald) O'Loughlin, Frank was born in Boston, May 5, 1931. He grew up in Roxbury and was a standout basketball player at Boston English High School. He attended Boston College for a year before enlisting in the Army during the Korean War. A letter carrier in Brighton for over 30 years, Frank walked his route, befriending many of his postal customers along the way. He lived in Norwell for the last 41 years. An animal lover, he could never say no when his children presented him with an animal in need of a home. He loved Vermont, and in retirement looked forward to his annual trip to Stowe with his family until this past year, when ill health kept him from traveling. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Coyne Healthcare in Rockland for their loving care of Frank the last several months. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Patricia (Boyle) O'Loughlin. He was the devoted father of Patricia of Norwell, John and Deborah Howard of Rockland, Mary and her husband Jim Donovan of Rockland, Maureen and Theresa, both of Halifax, William of Weymouth, Ann and her husband John Harrigan of Whitman and Kathy and her partner Eric Ross of Abington; loving grandfather of John and Joe Harrigan, Emily Donovan and Ashley Ross; brother of Thomas and his wife Clare of Florida and the late John and William O'Loughlin and Mary Hoen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte. 53, in Hanover, Friday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Helen Church, 383 Washington St., Rte. 53, in Norwell.
