She will be remembered by all those who knew her, in whatever walk in life, for her contagious smile, her cheerful laugh, her spirit which truly believed in our "connectedness" to each other and the universe, her great love of life, and the ability to share it with all who came in contact with her.
Carmel's career began in the United States as a teacher in Southern California. She enjoyed her time with children at St. Hedwig School in Los Alamitos and later in San Francisco at Holy Name School. She changed careers joining the Blood Bank of the Alameda Contra Costa County Medical Association in Oakland, first as a donor recruiter and later as a manager, and continued with the American Red Cross as community relations director.
Carmel remained totally focused, professionally, while undergoing cancer treatments and continued with her great sense of humor and her joy of life.
Carmel lived life to the fullest. She and Bill enjoyed many vacations in her beloved Ireland, as well as Hawaii, Italy, and France, They also enjoyed frequent visits to Carmel, Pismo Beach, Half Moon Bay, and Southern California.
In her latter days, Carmel was brave and at peace with herself. Those who knew Carmel are better off from knowing her and we will share that joy of life she has shared with us.
