HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Helen Theresa O'Connor Corbett, 79, formerly of Hornell, died Thursday (March 13, 2007) in Huntington Beach, Calif., following a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 16, 1927, to Helen (Haggerty) and Anthony A. O'Connor, in Corning, and lived in Owego before moving with her family to Hornell.
After graduation from Hornell High School (class of 1945) she attended Marywood College in Pennsylvania.
While living in Hornell, she was a communicant of St. Ann's Church where she also was active in the CCD program. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Thomas and Patrick; and three sisters, Jean Lieb, Ann Muldoon and Maureen King.
She was married Aug. 23, 1946, to Burton Corbett, who survives. She also is survived by her four daughters and five sons, Marcia Smith, of San Francisco, Calif., Kathleen Jones, of Mesa, Ariz., Amy (William) Maclean, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Melissa (John) Geck, of Westminster, Calif., Thomas (Jane), of Huntington Beach, Calif., Burton Anthony, of Florida, Christopher, of Costa Mesa, Calif., Gregory, of Tyler, Texas, and Timothy (Sabine), of Calais, Maine; her fourth sister, Marguerite (Francis "Buzz") Mauro, of Hornell; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara O'Connor and Lois Damon; brother-in- law, Joseph King; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Helen enjoyed tending her roses, collecting antiques and trips to the beach. Her love of the USC Trojans was a mystery to her Irish-American family.
