Mary Monica Brady passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law (Mary and Joe Meyer), in Wayland, NY on Friday March 18, 2016.

Monica was born on Tar Island in the Thousand Islands Canada on February 18, 1922. She was the eldest of five children of Rosie and Manville O'Connor and grew up in the small village of Rockport on the St. Lawrence River.

Following High School, Monica pursued an education in nursing at the St. Vincent DePaul School of Nursing in Brockville, Ontario, receiving her RN degree in 1944. Following graduation and being adventurous for the times, Monica and two friends decided to travel west to Prince Rupert and Vancouver Island, British Columbia for employment. Monica returned to the east a couple years later always stating it was close family ties that drew her back. Monica then moved to Geneva, NY and worked as an RN at Geneva General Hospital in the Emergency Department.

It was in Geneva that she met her husband Lewis. They were married in a small ceremony, on her birthday in 1950. Lewis and Monica were married for 63 years prior to his passing. Monica and Lewis moved to Penn Yan, NY in 1960, raising six children on Hamilton St. Monica returned to work as an RN in 1965 in the ICU department at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Penn Yan, NY.

Monica was well known for her chocolate chip cookies, her passion for swimming at Red Jacket Park and in the Keuka College pool, and volunteer work making quilts through St. Michael's Church and volunteering with the Red Cross taking blood pressures.

Monica was a long time member of St. Michael's Parish in Penn Yan. She loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit Ireland, Hawaii, Arizona, Florida and Seattle.

Monica was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lewis in 2013, her brothers John O'Connor and Tom O'Connor and her great grandson Quillan.

Monica is survived by her 6 children, Maureen (Seattle, Washington), Margaret (W. Bloomfield, MI), Gerald (Milton, VT), Leo (Ann) (Lockport, NY), Tom (Waterloo, NY) and Mary (Joe) Meyer (Wayland, NY) and her sister Madaleine Yannotti (Rochester, NY), her grandchildren Christine Armstrong, Monica and Connor Brady-Barnard, Nichole, Maureen and Megan Brady, Nathan Brady, Daniel, Steven and Mary Catherine Brady and Rachel and Joey Meyer and two great granddaughters Lavender and Ursula and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Michael's School, Penn Yan, NY or The Vincent House, Wayland, NY. At Monica's request there will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Church, Penn Yan, NY at 1:00 on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 followed by burial in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY.
