On Dec. 8, 2007, an angel received her wings. Jerri Clare Morton left this world to go to a better one after a long and love-filled life.

She was born Jerri Clare O'Connell on April 18, 1939, to Daniel O'Connell and Dorothy Casey O'Connell in Helena. She attended school in Helena as well as the Helena Business College. After spending a few years in Missoula, she came back to her home in Helena and married the love of her life and best friend, William Dale Morton, on Feb. 23, 1967. They had three children. She had always dreamed of being a Rockette, however the fact that she was only 5-foot, 4-inches tall impeded that dream.

Though she was small in stature, her heart was larger than life. She was the most generous and giving woman that you could ever know. She always had just enough to get by, but gave the world to those around her. Throughout her life, she collected strays, including people. At one time, she and Bill had 14 people living in a 14- by 70-foot three-bedroom trailer. To her, love and compassion were the most precious gifts you could give. She believed that education was very important and instilled the love to learn in all who knew her. Throughout her life she had a love for music and dancing. She really enjoyed traveling around with Bill to all the jazz festivals. After retiring from Cooney Convalescent Home, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

In 2002, she took an amazing trip to Ireland and came home just in time to help deliver her first great granddaughter, Madelynn Clare, who was named after her. Over the last few years she had really gotten to travel, going to 37 of the 50 states. She had also just come home from a month long visit to Georgia with her granddaughter, Amie, and great-granddaughters Madelynn and Gracie. Her family was her most prized possession and there is nothing that she would not do for them, devoting her life to them even to the very end.

She always gave all of herself, never thinking about what she needed, but making sure those around her were loved and taken care of.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy O'Connell, and father, Daniel O'Connell.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William Dale Morton; son, Daniel Morton; daughter, Lila Martinez and her husband, Gary Martinez; son, James Morton and his wife, Joan Morton; sister, Sheila Tobin; twin brother, Jeff O'Connell; brother, Donald O'Connell; grandchildren, Amie Honeycutt and her husband, Jason Honeycutt, Casey McAlpin, Joseph Morton, Peter Morton, Alex Morton, William Morton, Catherine Morton, Patrick Morton, John Paul Morton, and Rene (Todd) Pocha, Jennifer Martinez, and Sean (Trisha) Martinez; and her great-granddaughters, she helped raise, Madelynn Honeycutt and Gracie Honeycutt, also Cassie, Breenna and Shawn Pocha, Kaden Martinez and Taylor Martinez. She was loved and will be missed greatly by her family and her friends who are too numerous to name.
