Dear Friends: My mother, Helen Louise Kane, passed away on November 23, 2005. We were together with the loving care of the staff of Lexington Park Nursing Center and Midland Hospice as she left us.
Mother was the daughter of Anne O'Byrne Bernard and Andrew O'Byrne. She lived in Topeka all 88 years of her life.
Helen Louise distinguished herself as a loving mother to me and my brother Brian. Brian passed away in March of this year.
Mother accomplished all of the things a mother is supposed to do! She taught us about life, schooled us and corrected our errors. She would say, eat at least two bites; how else will you know if you don't like it. She made me play golf when I rather be swimming; she made me write thank you notes; she taught me to be gracious and thankful for what we had in life. Helen Louise was a wonderful brownie and cub scout leader.
Mother married our wonderful father, Bernard Bun Kane in 1947. He passed away in 1988.
Helen Louise Kane is survived by me, her daughter, Marice Kane, her son-in-law Ben Blair, her sister Lorene Shannon and an endearing group of nephews, nieces and step-granddaughters.
Services will be held at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church at 17th and Stone on Wednesday, November 30th at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to join us for lunch following the service at 2823 S.W. MacVicar, Topeka.
Helen Louise hoped that those who wished to make contributions would do so by contributing to their own favorite cause in her memory. Thank you for the love and caring you have shown to our small family over the years. Mother so appreciated your kindnesses. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth at Taylor, is in charge of arrangements.
