SOUTH DENNIS — Alice T. (O'Brien) Arone, formerly of South Yarmouth and Watertown, passed away on March 8, 2009, after a brief illness.

Born in Boston, the only child of James O'Brien, Alice was raised and educated in Watertown. After graduating Watertown High School, she worked in the secretarial field before starting a family.

Alice was very active in the PTA, Cub Scouts and the Watertown Firefighter's Wives Association. She also enjoyed bowling, ceramics, a good game of scrabble, and the occasional late night card games with her sisters-in-law, along with being an avid animal lover and loyal Red Sox fan. Alice enjoyed summering in Dennisport for many years with her family before moving to South Yarmouth in 1971. She loved having friends and family over for cookouts and spending time at the beach. She was employed for many years with Hyannis Answering Service as well as dispatching for Cape Cod Ambulance.

She leaves behind her four sons and their spouses, James and Kathleen of Burbank, Calif., Lawrence and Patricia of South Yarmouth, John and Patricia of Yarmouthport, and Joseph and Suzanne of Dennisport; as well as 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, located on Route 134, South Dennis, on Thursday, March 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Oakridge Cemetery in South Dennis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dennis Rescue Squad, 883 Main St., West Dennis, MA 02639, or Animal Rescue League 3981 Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631.
