Arlene was a Missionary and a Medical Doctor.
She and her husband, Merton J. Alexander met when they were both in Medical School in Chicago.
On June 25, 1950 they were married in the Evangelical Free Church, Park Ridge, Illinois.
In the 1950s Arlene and Merton served as Medical Missionaries in Africa.
They had 6 children. The oldest daughter, Charlene, died as an infant.
Arlene was a cheerful person and a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
After the death of her husband Arlene went back to school and earned a degree in Public Health.
She lived in Chicago for a number of years and worked in the field of cancer statistics.
Near the end of her life she started to experience stomach pains. Finally she was persuaded to go to the Emergency Room for an exam. When the Doctor returned to tell her the results she looked at him and said: "Honey, you wipe that long look off your face and tell me whatever you need to tell me. I've lived a long life and I'm ready to meet the Lord, - and I really mean it!!" He told her that cancer had metastasized to her stomach and chest and it was so undifferentiated that they could not treat it.
To her oldest daughter, who was with her at the time, she said; "Honey;, I have lived every day of my life in Eternity, why would that change now?"
