BESSE N. BARKER
A memorial service for Besse Nutter Barker, 91, of Kings Way, King's Grant, Martinsville, who died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at King's Grant, will be held at 11 am Monday at King's Grant Chapel. Dr Clint Hopkins, chaplain at King's Grant will preside. Entombment will follow the service at Roselawn Abbey.
Born May 21, 1911 in Blacksburg, her parents were the late Samuel Edward Nuitter and Valeria Robinson Nutter. Her husband was the late Patrick Henry Barker, Jr. She also was preceded in deathy by her sister, Kathleen Nutter Price, and two brothers, Oscar Price Nutter and lloyd Broderick Nutter. She had no immediate survirors.
She received a masters degree from Columbia University and retired from the Henry County School system with 40 years of service. During her teaching career, she also had been a principal, librarian and girls basketball coach.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
