Joan Cooley, 80, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Michealsen Health Center in Batavia, IL.
She was born February 24, 1921 in Leicister, Leicistershire, England the daughter of the late Leonard and Kate (Bateman) Nurse.
Joan Nurse, a war bride, married James Edward Cooley of Buffalo, New York just after WWII. Moving for a time to Cleveland, Ohio, later settling in Rolling Meadows. Joan work as a Nurse's Aide, a book publishing co. and studied handwriting analysis for ten years. She had a great talent in crafts including crochet knitting and ceramics. Her ceramics were exquisite, painstakingly hand-painted. She made villages, dolls, Knights on horseback, Christmas Nativity's and much more. These gifts will be kept and treasured by her families. She and her late husband, Jimmy enjoyed traveling together through Europe, the Mediterranean, Canada, Alaska and boating on the Mississippi River.
She is survived by her five children, Veronica Jefferis of Watford, England; Philip (Kathleen) Cooley of Oswego, IL; Thomas Cooley of Hanover Park, IL, Michael (Sandi) Cooley of Algonquin, IL and Elizabeth (Gerald) Paulus of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren, Paul and Rebecca Jefferis, Erin, Michael, Dana, Miles, Laura Cooley, Drew Trojanowski and James Gilman; and one great-granddaughter, Katie Sterrett.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James, brothers, Ernest, Arthur and Peter.
Memorial services will be held Friday, December 7, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. in the Park Manor Terrace Room of The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, IL 60510.
There will be no visitation.
