Mary was the 4th child of Samuel and Naomi Nunneley. Per the 1850 census when she was six years old she had an older sister Elizabeth 14, a brother George 11, a sister Sophia who was 8, a younger sister Anna 4, John T. 3, and William 1, Younger brother Henry 1851 and sister Harriet born in 1853.

Upon the death of Mary's father in 1858, her husband, Nathen may have taken over management of the Nunneley farm. At one time or another Naomi, Anna and Harriet lived with the Fullers.
