Hildegarde Novitch, 93, of Nicholson, and a resident of Mountain View Care Center, died early Monday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following a brief illness. She is the widow of Willard W. Novitch, who died in 1997. Born in Brewer, Saskatchewan, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Carl F. and Hulda Hitzemann Wyppich. Hildegarde was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Business College. Before retirement, she was involved with her husband's business W.W. Novitch International Harvester Dealership of Nicholson. She was previously employed as a bookkeeper with Snee and Sunday of Scranton. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Hop Bottom and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Scranton, where she briefly served as church organist. She was also an active member of the Nicholson Women's Club and strong supporter of the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department. Hildegarde was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sassy sense of humor, brilliant smile and generous heart. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Carl F. Wyppich Jr. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 238 Reese St., Scranton. Friends attending the service are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Bell Mountain, Dickson City. Friends may call Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton.
