Julia Nottingham Brown, daughter of the late Theodore Nottingham, Sr. and the late Helen Simmons Nottingham Sanford, was born October 7, 1932, in Fort Ogden, Florida.
She received her early education in the local public schools of Beaufort County. She met and was later joined in holy matrimony to Joseph Brown, Sr. and to that union, four children were born.
In 1958, she migrated north to Boston, Massachusetts where she was employed by the Raytheon Corporation. After more than 30 years with Raytheon, she retired and returned to Beaufort County. Upon returning to Beaufort, she accepted Christ as her personal savior and became a faithful member of Bethesda Christian Fellowship. Until her health failed, she derived great pleasure from gardening, her favorite pastime.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Louise Mitchell; a sister, Margaret Nottingham and a brother, Theodore Nottingham, Jr.
Those left mourn her passing and celebrate her life are a devoted son and daughter-in-law, Joseph, Jr. and Louise Brown of Beaufort, SC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda and Isaac Simmons of St. Helena Island, SC and Gwendolyn M. and Tony Walton of Haymarket, VA; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Julius, Jr. and Viretta Sanford of Rocklidge, FL; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends, including a very special lad, Jakhi J. Johnson, with whom she enjoyed a very special relationship. For him, she was "Mam" and for her, he was her "boy". Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals is in charge of the arrangement.
