Rev. David Norton Retired Episcopal Priest at 76.

The Rev. Father David W. Norton, 76, rector emeritus of St. Micheal's Episcopal Church in Marblehead, died Wednesday at his residence in Salem after a short illness.

He was born in Quincy and had been a resident of Marblehead for 22 years and the last four years in Salem. Fr. Norton graduated from County Day School in Brookline, Class of 1927, Harvard College, Class of 1930, and the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge in 1933.

He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in 1933 and ordained a priest in May 1934 by Bishop Henry Knox Sherrill.

He was a curate in St. Ann's Church in Lowell from 1933-34; rector of All Saint's Church in Chelmsfield, 1934-36; rector of Holy Trinity Church in Marlborough, 1936-40; a curate of the Church of the Advent in Boston, 1940-43; a vicar of St. Stephan's Church of Boston and chaplain of the House of Good Samaritan of Boston, 1943-47 and was rector of St. Micheal's Church of Marblehead, 1947-68.

Fr. Norton served as assistant priest at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salem from 1968 to the time of his death.

He served in the Diocese of Massachusetts as a n examining chaplain and on the Standing Committee of the Diocese of chairman of the Commission of Architecture of Fine Arts.

He leaves two cousins, Edward Robinson of Dedham and Hope Robinson Rhodes of Woodstock, VT.

A Holy Eucharist will be celebrated in St. Micheal's Episcopal Church Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Bishop John Coburn of the Diocese of Massachusetts officiating.

Fr. Norton will lie in state in St. Micheal's Church from 10 a.m. Monday until the Holy Eucharist on Tuesday.

Burial will be in Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
